Hyderabad: Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Thursday hit out at opposition BRS president K Chandrasekhar Rao for not responding to the issue of the POCSO case against the son of Union Minister Bandi Sanjay Kumar. Taking a swipe at Sanjay Kumar over his comments that he asked his son to cooperate with the police, he said, had it been a voluntary surrender before the police, the Union minister should have called the police to take his son into custody.
The Chief Minister said he believes the state police, who announced that they arrested Sanjay Kumar's son Bageerath during a 'nakabandi' (police checkpoint).
"When injustice happened to a minor girl (in the POCSO case), where is the Leader of Opposition (Chandrasekhar Rao) sleeping? If he does not have the capacity to come out and speak, he should at least issue a press release. He will go to Jagtial to admit a leader from another party into BRS. But, such a major incident happens in the state, and the main opposition leader does not even respond," Reddy told reporters here.
The CM said journalists should question either KCR or his party leaders why the opposition leader confined himself to a farmhouse without responding to the issue concerning a minor girl.
He asserted that the government and police acted as per the law in the case. Bageerath had filed a complaint of extortion and criminal intimidation against the aggrieved girl and her parents, he recalled.
Referring to the allegations of BRS spreading photos of the aggrieved girl in the POCSO case and her parents on social media, he said the opposition is playing "shameless" politics.
Dismissing allegations of BRS against the Congress government, he said the government had issued a notice when narcotic substances were allegedly found at the farmhouse of a relative of BRS leader K T Rama Rao and also to Bageerath in the POCSO case. The CM asked why BRS has not taken action against its former MLA, who was allegedly involved in firing on police at a farmhouse here.
Alleging that BRS leaders did not allow lorries to unload the paddy procured from farmers, which led to a shortage of lorries for the procurement process, he alleged that the opposition party is involved in an "organised crime".
The BRS leaders are "taking selfies" instead of extending help when farmers die due to natural disasters or accidents, he said. The BRS is playing politics over dead bodies, he said.
Asserting that the government has procured 80 per cent of the farmers' produce, Reddy said there was some disruption in procurement for a few days as workers involved in the process visited their home state of West Bengal to cast their votes in Assembly elections.
Criticising PM Narendra Modi over the fuel price hike, the chief minister alleged that Modi looks at things from a political angle, as the fuel prices were not hiked during the recent Assembly polls. The prices of fuel are now being increased almost every day, he claimed.
