Nagarkurnool: Chief Minister Revanth Reddy officially launched the ‘Indira Saura Giri Jala Vikasam’ scheme at Macharam in Amrabad mandal, within the Mannanur ITDA limits of Nagarkurnool district on Monday.
Under the Forest Rights Act, podu pattas have been sanctioned for 6.69 lakh acres benefiting around 2.3 lakh ST farmers in the state. The new scheme aims to provide irrigation facilities using solar-powered borewells across 6 lakh acres of tribal land that currently lacks electricity.
Individual units will be formed for farmers owning more than 2.5 acres. Those with smaller holdings will be grouped into borewell user groups. The Tribal Welfare Department will complete the identification of eligible ST farmers mandal-wise by May 25, followed by field observations and groundwater surveys until June 10.
From June 25 to March 31, work will commence on land development, borewell drilling, and installation of solar pump sets. In its first phase, the scheme will cover 27,184 acres benefiting 10,000 farmers, with a total allocation of ₹600 crore.
