CM Revanth: Make Rahul PM in 2029 Elections, Fulfil YSR’s Last Wish

Hyderabad:Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Wednesday called upon Congress leaders and workers to work with renewed determination to make Rahul Gandhi the prime minister in the 2029 Lok Sabha elections, describing it as the fulfilment of former undivided Andhra Pradesh chief minister late Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy’s (YSR) aspiration.

Revanth Reddy was speaking at the Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy Awards-2026 presentation ceremony held at the Constitution Club in Delhi in the presence of ministers, Congress MPs and senior party leaders. The award was conferred on the M.S. Swaminathan Research Foundation (MSSRF).

Recalling his association with YSR and his political legacy, Revanth Reddy said the late chief minister, after taking oath for a second term in 2009, had expressed his desire to see Rahul Gandhi become prime minister. He said the country was passing through difficult times and needed a strong leader who could stand by the people.

Describing Rahul Gandhi as such a leader, Revanth Reddty appealed to Congress leaders and workers to unite under the leadership of AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge and work towards the 2029 elections.

The Chief Minister also highlighted YSR’s contribution to irrigation development in Telangana, recalling the initiation of projects such as Pranahita-Chevella, the Kalwakurthy Lift Irrigation Scheme and the SLBC tunnel project. He said Pranahita-Chevella and SLBC, which were launched during YSR’s tenure, had subsequently stalled, and asserted that his government would complete these projects and dedicate them to the people of Telangana.

“We will carry forward YSR’s ideals in full measure,” Revanth Reddy said, stressing the need for Congress leaders and workers to advance the late Chief Minister’s development and welfare agenda.

The Chief Minister further recalled YSR’s decision to provide free electricity to farmers, describing him as the first leader to sign the decision.
