CM Revanth Demands Expulsion of BRS MLC Over Remarks Against Assembly Speaker
CM A Revanth Reddy launched a sharp attack on the BRS party in the Assembly over BRS MLC T Madhu's derogatory remarks against Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar and demanded an unconditional apology along with the member's expulsion.
Hyderabad: Chief Minister Revanth Reddy attacked the opposition BRS in the Telangana Assembly on Monday over BRS MLC Thatha Madhu's derogatory remarks against Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar, demanding an apology and the member's expulsion from the House.
He said the insult was not to Prasad Kumar personally but to the dignity of the Speaker's chair, the House, and Telangana's people, calling it "a dark day" and the language used against the Speaker and his family unpardonable.
Calling it an insult to everyone, not just Dalits, he accused BRS of a pattern of anti-Dalit conduct, citing the removal of the Dalit Deputy CM despite past promises, the killing of Dalit protesters at Nereda by sand lorries, and the stripping of opposition status from Congress after a Dalit leader became CLP chief.
Warning that government restraint should not be mistaken for weakness, he demanded that former CM KCR apologize, and that the member resign and be expelled from the Assembly.
The monsoon session of the Telangana Assembly started on a stormy note on Monday morning, with the House being adjourned for 15 minutes soon after the commencement of proceedings following disruption by the opposition members.
The BJP MLAs, who raised slogans, sought immediate debate on the inclusion of private lands of citizens in a prohibitive list under Section 22A of the Registration Act, which bars registrations and other transactions.
Meanwhile, several Dalit Congress MLAs and MLCs alleged that BRS MLC Thatha Madhusudan made derogatory remarks against Assembly Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar, who is a Dalit leader, when police stopped them at the Assembly gate.
