The CM directed officials to prepare and submit designs to the government, call tenders for construction within two months: Report

HYDERABAD: Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Saturday announced the construction of a gateway to the city on the Outer Ring Road (ORR). near Gandhi Sarovar at Himayatsagar as part of the Musi rejuvenation project. The ‘Gateway of Hyderabad’ is to symbolise the city’s heritage and greet visitors arriving from various parts of the country.

The CM directed officials to prepare and submit designs to the government, call tenders for construction within two months.

Official sources said Revanth Reddy on Saturday directed Musi Riverfront Development Corporation Limited (MRDCL) officials to execute the river rejuvenation project within the core urban area of Hyderabad as a state-of-the-art, multi-purpose initiative that would also serve as a major tourist attraction.

Revanth Reddy suggested that the ‘Gateway to Hyderabad’ design should include an eco-themed park on one side of the ORR and a massive iconic tower on the Bapu Ghat side. The two would be connected via an elevated gateway, forming the grand ‘Gateway of Hyderabad’. The CM instructed that Bapu Ghat and its surroundings be developed into a world-class zone that would captivate tourists and locals alike.

To improve connectivity, Revanth Reddy proposed a new flyover from the approach road near Himayat Sagar towards Attapur. This flyover would act as a connectivity corridor around Gandhi Sarovar, enabling direct access from the airport to the lake. The iconic tower planned at Gandhi Sarovar is envisioned to be among the tallest in the world. The CM directed officials to conduct feasibility studies and determine the optimal height in line with local conditions.

On the environmental front, the CM stressed that the Musi project should integrate both drinking water supply and flood management. He suggested studying successful international models and applying best practices suited to Hyderabad. Osmansagar and Himayatsagar, he noted, must be optimally utilised to meet the city’s drinking water needs.

To maximise land use efficiency, the CM proposed constructing large underground water storage sumps on both banks of the Musi within the project area, facilitating water transport from these points. He directed that the development of Gandhi Sarovar be guided by comprehensive water-flow studies to ensure sustainability and resilience.

Officials were told to expedite preparations so that tenders could be invited within two months, underscoring the government’s intent to fast-track the project. The Gateway of Hyderabad project, coupled with the Musi rejuvenation and the towering landmark at Gandhi Sarovar, is poised to become a new symbol of the city, blending infrastructure, ecology and tourism in a single visionary initiative, official sources said.
