Clash Over Cattle Rumours in Asifnagar
Two policemen on duty sustained injuries in the stone‑pelting, and several parked vehicles were damaged

HYDERABAD: Tension gripped Asifnagar late Saturday after ‘go rakshak’ activists stopped a lorry in Gudimalkapur, suspecting it was transporting cattle ahead of Bakrid. Police said the group pelted stones, damaging the vehicle and injuring passersby, which triggered panic in the locality.
While the activists claimed the lorry carried cattle, the driver maintained it was loaded with plywood. As the driver was assaulted, local residents gathered, leading to a heated confrontation. Police rushed to the spot and resorted to lathicharge to disperse the groups. Two policemen on duty sustained injuries in the stone‑pelting, and several parked vehicles were damaged.
AIMIM MLA Majid Hussain, who reached the scene, that he personally boarded the lorry and found no cattle inside. “This is a serious issue of police failure to verify facts. I demand stringent action, including opening communal sheets against those involved,” he said.
Asifnagar police registered counter cases and launched an investigation. Officials recalled that DGP C.V. Anand had earlier warned of strict measures to ensure peace and communal harmony during Bakrid, directing police to prevent illegal cattle transport and to act sternly against those taking law into their own hands.
