Civil Supplies Wing Warns Against Rice Hoarding
Telangana’s civil supplies department warns rice millers and wholesale traders of legal action against hoarding and unjustified price hikes amid rising rice prices.

Amid rising rice prices, the civil supplies department on Wednesday warned rice millers and wholesale traders against hoarding and unjustified price increases, saying strict action would be taken against those creating artificial shortages in the market.
At a meeting chaired by civil supplies director G.V. Shyam Prasad Lal, officials asked rice millers and wholesale traders from Miryalaguda, Nizamabad and Nalgonda to ensure uninterrupted supplies and maintain price stability. Officials said the rice currently available in the market was from the previous agricultural season and warned traders against increasing prices without justification.
Civil supplies commissioner M. Stephen Raveendra said the government would not tolerate hoarding or practices aimed at creating artificial scarcity. He warned that those found indulging in such activities would face legal action. The department also sought the cooperation of rice millers and traders in implementing measures to stabilise prices.
Officials said the government could open special rice distribution counters if necessary to check rising prices. Traders and millers were asked to ensure adequate supplies to support such an initiative.
