City Police Roll Out Zero-Tolerance Ganesh Utsav Security

Hyderabad:City police commissioner V.C. Sajjanar has ordered an intensive zero‑tolerance security protocol for the Ganesh festival, deploying a heavy contingent of armed personnel. For the first time in Hyderabad, police will enforce digital geo‑tagging, round‑the‑clock cyber surveillance and strategic traffic route sanitisation.
Addressing a preparatory meeting with senior command staff on Saturday, Sajjanar warned that any attempt to disrupt peace would be met with swift legal action. Drawing lessons from the Bonalu festivities, he directed Station House Officers to maintain active intelligence channels with peace committees and pandal organisers.
Every Ganesh mandapam must register via the police portal, with organisers legally required to geo‑tag their structures through the specified app. Sajjanar instructed pandal managers to install queue barricades and standalone CCTV cameras to prevent theft, nuisance and stampedes in high‑footfall areas.
Taking a hard line against communal instigation, he said a specialised cyber‑surveillance mechanism has been activated. The IT cell and local network units will monitor social media platforms 24 hours a day, flagging and tracing the originators of provocative content, hate speech or rumours. Strict penal sections will be invoked against cyber‑provocateurs.
On the inclusion of Shamshabad and Rajendranagar zones into city police jurisdiction, Sajjanar said the structural load of the main procession routes from Balapur to Khairatabad Bada Ganesh now falls on the city command. Zonal officers must initiate advance sweeps to ensure massive transit idols move without halting.
The traffic wing will roll out a synchronised diversion plan, coordinating with Cyberabad and Rachakonda commissionerates to eliminate gridlocks at bottlenecks. SB and task force officers have been ordered to practise “visible policing” while handling large devotee turnouts with restraint and patience.
