CISF Pension Fraud: ED Chargesheets Ex-ASI

ED investigation revealed that Singh used multiple bank accounts held in his own name as well as those of his family members, friends, and unrelated individuals who the probe found were unaware of the true purpose of the use of their accounts to launder the siphoned-off NPS funds.

Hyderabad: The Directorate of Enforcement (ED) on Friday filed a chargesheet before the Rangareddy court against former assistant sub inspector (ASI) Roop Singh Meena of the CISF, for allegedly diverting over 60 lakh belonging to the pension scheme for security personnel at the National Industrial Security Academy here.

On April 18, 2023, the police had booked Singh under the IPC for diverting National Pension Scheme (NPS) contribution amounts belonging to CISF personnel dishonestly and without authority to the NPS accounts of other serving CISF personnel and some who had resigned. Following the FIR, the ED took up the case and investigated it under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).
Singh allegedly altered the permanent retirement account numbers and the misappropriated funds were withdrawn from altered bank accounts after making a request for premature withdrawals. Singh at that time possessed login credentials to access the NPS accounts. In this way, Singh allegedly embezzled `60,26,321. The case was subsequently taken up by CBI and the ACB, Hyderabad, for investigation.
ED investigation revealed that Singh used multiple bank accounts held in his own name as well as those of his family members, friends, and unrelated individuals who the probe found were unaware of the true purpose of the use of their accounts to launder the siphoned-off NPS funds.
An ED statement said the proceeds of crime were placed and layered through multiple bank accounts before being transferred to his own bank accounts or withdrawn in the form of cash. He allegedly spent the money for his marriage expenses, medical treatment, clearing past debts and investing in a dairy business.
