CISF, IIT Hyderabad Join Hands To Boost Drone, Anti-Drone Tech

The agreement is part of the CISF’s aim to build partnerships with academic and technical institutions: Reports

HYDERABAD: The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) partnered with IIT Hyderabad’s Technology Innovation Hub on Autonomous Navigation (TIHAN) to strengthen its capabilities in drone and anti-drone technology, as unmanned aerial systems pose growing risks to critical infrastructure.

Harpreet Kaur Sohi, Inspector General and Director of the National Industrial Security Academy (NISA), signed the memorandum of understanding with Prof. Rajlakshmi P., Project Director of TIHAN.

Under the agreement, assistant commandant probationers and sub-inspector trainees at NISA would attend short-duration courses at TIHAN for hands-on exposure to drone assembly, flight operations and research into advanced autonomous systems at the institute’s laboratories.

TIHAN will also provide academic and technical support to the CISF’s proposed Centre of Excellence for Drone and Anti-Drone Technology at the Recruit Training Centre in Behror, Rajasthan, a statement said.

The agreement is part of the CISF’s aim to build partnerships with academic and technical institutions. The force has also signed MOUs with IIT Kanpur for cybersecurity and anti-drone capabilities, IIT Ropar for developing a cybersecurity cadre for aviation infrastructure, and the National e-Governance Division for training in artificial intelligence, drone technology and cybersecurity. Other partnerships include Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology for cyber defence training and the Indian Maritime University for strengthening port and maritime security capabilities.

Sohi said the partnership would strengthen specialisation within the force and support its new functional sector-based command structure. The CISF recently moved from a traditional territorial command system to dedicated commands covering sectors such as power, petroleum, coal and ports. “This MoU will significantly increase specialisation within the force, directly supporting our newly formed functional sector pattern of supervision,” she said, adding that integrating academic research into training would help personnel develop the technical expertise needed to anticipate and counter emerging threats.

Prof. Rajlakshmi said the collaboration would help translate TIHAN’s research in autonomous systems into practical applications for the CISF and support the Atmanirbhar Bharat vision in critical security technologies.
