CID Nabs 2 More Persons In Saroornagar Human Organ Trafficking Case

The total number of people nabbed in the case went up to 15 with the arrest of two more persons: CID

Hyderabad: Telangana Crime Investigation Department (CID) has arrested two more persons including a woman in connection with the inter-State human organ trafficking case reported at Saroornagar a few months ago.

The arrested have been identified as Shankaran alias Sai Shankaran (56) and N Ramya (36), both natives of Chennai. A special team from CID went to Chennai and arrested them on May 26. A passport and two mobile phones were seized from them. They were brought to Hyderabad on a transit remand and produced before the magistrate for judicial remand on Thursday.

With the arrest of Shankaran and Ramya, the total number of people arrested in the case went up to 15.

The CID Director-General Shikha Goel explained that a case of inter-state human organ trafficking under the guise of organ donation and transplantation was reported at Alakananda Multi Speciality Hospital in Kothapet in Saroornagar.

Based on a complaint from the Deputy Director of Medical and Health Officer, Ranga Reddy district, a criminal case was registered under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Transplantation of Human Organs and Tissues Act-1994, at Saroornagar police station.

The case was later transferred to the CID for further investigation on April 24, 2025.

She said the accused targeted innocent and economically disadvantaged individuals from Tamil Nadu by luring them with false promises of employment. The victims were trafficked to Hyderabad, where illegal kidney transplants were conducted with the assistance of other accused persons, including Pradeep from Bangalore, Pavan, and his associates.

For each illegal transplant, the accused received a commission of Rs.10 lakh, out of which Rs.4 to Rs.5 lakh were given to donors. Efforts were in progress to apprehend seven more absconding accused persons, including Pavan, Poornachander and their associates, she added.
