Churches Start Christmas Celebrations with Carols, Services

Hyderabad: The Christmas season was marked by special services, carol singing, and community gatherings across churches of various denominations.

CSI All Saints’ Church, Trimulgherry hosted a reverent Service of Nine Lessons and Carols, commemorating the joyous birth of Lord Jesus Christ. The historic church, the first permanent structure in the Trimulgherry Entrenchment, was built in 1860 to serve the British Cantonment of the Secunderabad region. The service featured reflective readings and melodious carols narrating the timeless story of God’s redemptive love for humanity, leading the congregation into a meaningful time of worship, praise, and fellowship.

Sukanya James, organist and choirmaster, led the choir through nine classic carols rendered with devotion and musical finesse, including From Heaven Above to Earth I Come, All My Heart This Night Rejoices, There’s a Song in the Air!, O Sanctissima, Lo! The Heav’nly Choirs Are Singing, The Joyful Morn Is Breaking, Christmas Voices, and Silent Night. Rev. B. Winston, presbyter-in-charge, and Rev. D. Raja, presbyter, led the prayers and pronounced the benediction.

CSI Centenary Wesley Church, Ramkote, with a congregation strength of over 4,000, held a candlelight service. A nativity play formed the highlight of the evening, with families participating in large numbers. The choir rendered carols, while the Christmas message was delivered by Rev. George Christopher. St. Joseph’s Degree and PG College organised its annual Christmas festival, Fete De Noel, with enthusiastic participation from students and staff. Carol competitions and other Christmas-themed events transformed the campus into a festive setting.

At Mother Teresa Home for the Sick and Dying Destitutes, Bhoiguda, around 200 people took part in pre-Christmas celebrations. Organiser Jacob Chinnappa said 40 girls from the home for street children sang carols, while about 160 patients residing at the home joined in the celebrations.
