Chityal Police Arrests Six-Member Diesel Theft Gang

A number of diesel theft incidents had been reported from lorries, trucks and heavy vehicles parked along the highway, prompting the formation of special police teams to curb the offences: Additional Superintendent of Police G. Ramesh

NALGONDA: Chityal and CCS police arrested a six-member gang involved in diesel theft from vehicles parked along National Highway 65 in Nalgonda district on Saturday and seized around 1,000 litres of diesel from their possession.

The arrested persons have been identified as Mudavath Gandhi Naik (36), Mudavath Venkateswarlu Naik (45), Banavath Tulsya Naik (21), Mudavath Balakrishna Naik (32), Ramavath Vagya Naik (45), along with a minor boy.

Addressing a media conference at the District Police Office in Nalgonda, Additional Superintendent of Police G. Ramesh said a number of diesel theft incidents had been reported from lorries, trucks and heavy vehicles parked along the highway, prompting the formation of special police teams to curb the offences.

He said the accused were caught during vehicle checking in the early hours of Saturday near NH-65 at Chityal, where police found diesel-filled cans hidden beneath paddy bags in a DCM truck. During questioning, the accused reportedly confessed to the offences.

Police said around 1,000 litres of diesel and two DCM trucks, valued at approximately ?40 lakh, were seized. Investigation revealed that the gang members were allegedly involved in around 20 similar cases registered in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.
