Chiranjeevi’s Initiative Pays Off, Decks Cleared For Peddi

Chiranjeevi also reportedly assured exhibitors that a full-fledged percentage-sharing model would be implemented across all theatres from July onwards

Hyderabad: For quite some time, Telangana exhibitors have been demanding the implementation of a percentage-sharing model and were mounting pressure to introduce it with Ram Charan’s upcoming biggie Peddi. However, the active producers of Telugu cinema opposed the move and sought more time for the new system to be implemented.

With the debate intensifying ahead of Peddi’s release, Megastar Chiranjeevi stepped in and successfully mediated between both sides, paving the way for an amicable resolution.

Following Chiranjeevi’s assurance, exhibitors have decided to step back from their agitation. Peddi will now be released under the existing rental system, while any ticket price hike will include a 7.5 percent revenue-sharing component across theatres in Telangana. Chiranjeevi also reportedly assured exhibitors that a full-fledged percentage-sharing model would be implemented across all theatres from July onwards.

Industry sources say Chiranjeevi’s second round of discussions with key exhibitors played a crucial role in resolving the issue smoothly.

“Apart from Peddi, films releasing till June 30 will continue on a rental basis. Any release after that will follow the revenue-sharing model without exception,” said an exhibitor familiar with the discussions.

When contacted, noted exhibitor leader Vijayender Reddy confirmed the meeting of exhibitors and Chiranjeevi and stated, “Peddi will release on a rental basis as we have been assured that the revenue-sharing model will come into effect from July 1 onwards.”
