Chinese Manja Trader Arrested
Kite trader arrested with 345 bobbins worth ₹6.9 lakh

HYDERABAD: The west zone task force on Saturday arrested a kite trader for illegally procuring and selling banned Chinese manja, seizing 345 bobbins valued at about ₹6.9 lakh.
Telangana government had banned the procurement, storage, sale, and use of Chinese Manja in January 2016 under Section 5 of the Environment (Protection) Act, 1986, citing risks to human lives and birds. Violators face up to five years’ imprisonment or a fine of ₹1 lakh, or both, said DCP Task Force Mohd Iqbal Siddiqui.
A team led by task force inspector Ch. Yadender and sub-inspector G. Sandeep Reddy arrested Mohd Shazaib, a resident of Vatapally, at his outlet Sadhu Kite in Kalapathar, where he was caught selling the deadly manja.
Shazaib had procured the banned material through an associate, Vikram Mehta of Karnal, Haryana, said additional DCP Md Iqbal Siddiqui. The accused and seized material were handed over to the Kalapathar police.
