Chinese Manja Critically Injures Food Delivery Worker in Hyderabad

The use and sale of synthetic or Chinese manja, used mainly for kite flying, are strictly prohibited since the glass-coated or nylon threads pose a deadly threat to birds, animals and humans

A food delivery worker was critically injured as banned Chinese manja thread cut his throat while he was riding his bike in Hyderabad’s Shamshirganj area. He was immediately rushed to a private hospital, where he is under treatment.

The use and sale of synthetic or Chinese manja, used mainly for kite flying, are strictly prohibited since the glass-coated or nylon threads pose a deadly threat to birds, animals and humans. However, every year around the time of the Sankranti festival, the threads show up in local markets.

Following the incident, Khairatabad MLA Danam Nagender announced a Rs 5,000 reward for information leading to the detection of banned Chinese manja being sold in the area. City police have also stepped up their crackdown on the banned string.
