WARANGAL: In a major breakthrough, the Kazipet police, in coordination with the Task Force, arrested a two-member gang involved in kidnapping small children from railway stations and footpaths in Hanamkonda on Saturday.
Disclosing details to the media, Police Commissioner Sunpreet Singh said the accused were identified as Kodupaka Naresh, 42, and Velpula Yadagiri, 32, both residents of Peddapalli district. The duo allegedly targeted sleeping children and sold them to childless couples by falsely claiming the children were from orphanages. Following the arrests, police rescued five children, including a five-month-old baby boy who had been kidnapped last month.
The investigation was initiated after the abduction of a five-month-old boy on December 28 while he was sleeping with his father on a footpath outside Kazipet Railway Station. Based on evidence collected from the scene, police teams tracked the suspects’ movements. The gang was apprehended on Saturday morning while conducting a reconnaissance in a rented car near the same railway station, allegedly scouting for another victim.
During interrogation, the accused confessed to five separate kidnapping incidents. Their modus operandi involved targeting families sleeping on railway platforms or footpaths. Acting on their confession, police teams conducted raids across multiple districts, including Jannaram, Mancherial and Jagtial, and rescued all five children.
Police also took into custody the couples who had purchased the children without any legal documentation. Legal action is being initiated against them for their role in the illegal trade. All rescued children are safe and have been handed over to Child Protection authorities.
Commissioner Sunpreet Singh commended the Task Force and Kazipet police for their swift and effective action in solving the cases and rescuing the children. Rewards were announced for the officers and staff involved in the operation. Central Zone DCP Kavitha, Task Force ACPs and Child Protection officials were present during the media briefing.
