Seven security agencies booked for flouting PSARA norms
Karimnagar police registered cases against seven private security agencies for operating without valid licences in violation of the Private Security Agencies Regulation Act (PSARA).
The action followed directions from Intelligence and Security Wing (ISW) OSD V.B. Kamalasan Reddy and instructions issued by additional director general of intelligence and controlling authority for private security agencies Vijay Kumar. Acting on the orders, police conducted inspections and identified agencies allegedly functioning without mandatory licences.
Officials said show-cause notices had been served earlier, but as the agencies failed to provide satisfactory explanations, criminal cases were registered at various police stations across Karimnagar Commissionerate under the leadership of Commissioner Gaush Alam. The cases were booked under BNS Section 318(4) along with Sections 20 and 22 of the PSARA Act, 2005.
Kamalasan Reddy said a statewide drive will be launched against agencies operating without valid licences. He warned that running a security agency without a PSARA licence is illegal and attracts imprisonment of up to one year or a fine of up to ₹25,000.
He also stressed the need for mandatory police verification of security personnel before deployment and said guards should undergo at least 21 days of basic training before being assigned duties.
Commercial establishments, industries and business organisations were advised to engage only those agencies that possess valid government-recognised PSARA licences. Authorities said the enforcement drive is aimed at ensuring accountability, professionalism and compliance in the private security sector across the state.
