After a four-year delay and several missed deadlines, the 3.3-km, four-lane Chanchalguda–Santoshnagar steel flyover, built at a cost of ₹620 crore, will be inaugurated in August.

Hyderabad: After a four-year delay and several missed deadlines, the 3.3-km, four-lane Chanchalguda–Santoshnagar steel flyover, built at a cost of ₹620 crore, will be inaugurated in August. The long-awaited flyover is expected to ease traffic congestion across several busy junctions, including Chanchalguda, Saidabad, Madannapet and IS Sadan, once it opens.
The elevated corridor begins near Chanchalguda Jail and extends to Santoshnagar, with the main ramp running from Chanchalguda to Yadagiri Theatre. It also includes an up-ramp at Saidabad and a down-ramp at IS Sadan, improving connectivity along the congested stretches.
The flyover is said to ease traffic congestion in the Old City area. Key areas it will connect and pass through:Chanchalguda-Near Chanchalguda Central Jail & Owaisi Hospital, Purani Haveli Road stretch, Aliabad and will end at Santoshnagar X Roads.
At present, commuters travelling from Chanchalguda printing press to IS Sadan spend nearly 30 minutes during peak hours because of heavy traffic. With the flyover becoming operational, the travel time is expected to come down to just eight minutes.
Residents have been eagerly awaiting the project, as the prolonged construction itself has worsened traffic bottlenecks on the narrow corridor. Work on the flyover began in 2020 and was originally scheduled for completion by 2022. However, the project was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic and land acquisition issues.
Following an inspection on Tuesday, GHMC commissioner R.V. Karnan said construction had gained significant momentum over the past year.
The Commissioner directed officials to expedite all pending works, including BT road laying on the flyover and service roads, completion of the Akbarbagh up-ramp and remaining ramps, installation of crash barriers, road markings, street lighting, and horticulture and landscaping works beneath the flyover.
Emphasizing the importance of timely completion, the Commissioner instructed the engineering teams to complete the entire project by the first week of August, ensuring the flyover is ready for inauguration and open to the public at the earliest.
