Jangaon: Chalukyan-Era Stone Inscription Found in Nidigonda Tank
The inscription is currently in a dilapidated state with cracks on both sides. Acharya has urged the archaeological department to retrieve, and conserve the inscription at the local tank site to protect the region’s heritage.

Jangaon: A stone inscription dating back to 1104 AD from the Chalukya dynasty was discovered in a large tank at Nidigonda in Jangaon district, Telangana. Kotha Telangana Charitra Brundam (KTCB) member Acharya announced this on Sunday. Nidigonda is well-known for its rich archaeological past and features ancient, medieval, and Kakatiya-era ruins.
He informed that the inscription remains submerged when the tank is full and becomes visible only when the water level recedes during dry periods. As per historical records, Acharya said the tank was built by Dugga Bhupati, a feudatory king under the Chalukyas, who named it Ratta Samudra. The 12th-century inscription details a land donation made by Dugga Bhupati and his wife Muppambika to the local priest of Muppeswara Temple during the Makar Sankranti and Uttarayana puja ceremonies.
The inscription is currently in a dilapidated state with cracks on both sides. Acharya has urged the archaeological department to retrieve, install, and conserve the inscription at the local tank site to protect the region’s heritage.
