Congress Protest at Lok Bhavan; Leaders Detained

The Congress alleged that the detention of Rahul Gandhi and other Opposition leaders was an attempt to suppress democratic voices.

Hyderabad: Telangana Police on Wednesday detained several Congress leaders, including ministers, after they reached Lok Bhavan as part of the 'Chalo Lok Bhavan' protest organised by the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC).

Responding to the AICC's call, the Telangana Congress staged the protest against the detention of Rahul Gandhi and other Opposition leaders in New Delhi on Tuesday.

Led by TPCC president B. Mahesh Kumar Goud, Congress leaders and workers took out a massive rally from Necklace Road to Lok Bhavan in Hyderabad. Senior leaders, including Ministers Damodar Raja Narasimha and Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy, former cricketer and Congress leader Mohammad Azharuddin, MLC Balmuri Venkat, and several other party leaders participated in the rally.

As soon as the rally reached Lok Bhavan, the police stopped the protesters and detained Mahesh Kumar Goud, the ministers and several Congress leaders to prevent them from staging a demonstration at the venue.

The Congress alleged that the detention of Rahul Gandhi and other Opposition leaders was an attempt to suppress democratic voices, while the party leaders reaffirmed their commitment to continue protesting against what they termed as the Centre's undemocratic actions. The main demand was for the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan in the NEET paper leak.
