WARANGAL: A wave of chain-snatching incidents has gripped Warangal, with a three-member gang striking at three locations within a few hours on Monday night. In a departure from usual patterns, the culprits targeted both men and women, triggering panic across the city.
The most shocking incident occurred in Christian Colony, where an advocate, Maidam Vivek, was sitting outside his residence when three miscreants on a Pulsar motorcycle snatched a two-tola gold chain from his neck. He fell and sustained injuries while attempting to chase the accused. The incident, captured on CCTV, has left residents and the legal fraternity shaken.
The gang’s spree began at Society Colony Road No. 3 in Kashibugga, where a woman, Deepa Sri, was feeding her children outside her house when the bike-borne thieves snatched her gold chain and fled. Soon after, the same group struck in Lotus Colony in Hanamkonda, targeting a woman walking alone and snatching her gold chain (pusthelatadu).
Police said preliminary investigations indicate that the same gang was involved in all three incidents. Teams are analysing CCTV footage from multiple routes to trace the movement of the motorcycle used in the crimes.
With three incidents reported in a single night, fear has spread among residents. Police have issued an advisory urging people to remain vigilant while wearing gold jewellery in public, noting that rising gold prices are making offenders more audacious and indiscriminate in their targets.
Security has been intensified in residential areas, and efforts are on to nab the three-member gang.
