Centre’s Registration System For Birth, Death Certificates To Be Used By GHMC
The Office of Registrar General of India (ORGI) comes under the Union ministry of home affairs.

Hyderabad: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) is likely to adopt the Registrar General of India’s Civil Registration System (CRS) for issuing birth and death certificates to curb irregularities in its issuance.
The Office of Registrar General of India (ORGI) comes under the Union ministry of home affairs. Currently, it is being used for issuing birth and death certificates by states like Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Madhya Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh among others.
Currently, GHMC does not insist on submitting Aadhaar details of parents for issuing birth certificates, as other proofs also remain valid. However, under CRS, Aadhaar will be mandatory for Indian citizens. For refugees, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) number will be mandatory for issuing birth and death certificates.
The application process, however, will be the same. Applicants will have to apply through MeeSeva and collect the certificates from the centre following the approval.
The change will be confined to the internal processing. Under the CRS regime, MeeSeva will collect applications and forward them to GHMC, which will subsequently send them to the Central government’s National Informatics Centre (NIC) portal. Currently, GHMC forwards the applications to the state government’s Centre for Good Governance (CGG).
The time taken for processing the applications will increase under the CRS. If a birth certificate was issued within a day now, it is likely to take up to a week under the CRS.
