Central Government approves Mamnoor Airport development
A significant hurdle was cleared when GMR withdrew the 150-kilometre condition.

Hyderabad: The Central government has granted approval for the development of Mamnoor Airport, responding to an appeal from the state government. Union minister Ram Mohan Naidu issued the necessary orders.
The state government had previously issued a Government Order (GO) for the acquisition of 256 acres of land, allocating ₹205 crore for the purpose. The Roads and Buildings (R&B) Department has since requested the Airports Authority of India (AAI) to prepare a Detailed Project Report (DPR) with the required airport designs.
A significant hurdle was cleared when GMR withdrew the 150-kilometre condition, which had been an obstacle to the airport's development. Mamnoor Airport already possesses 696 acres of land. The R&B Department has announced plans to utilize 253 acres for the expansion of the runway, construction of a terminal building, establishment of an Air Traffic Control (ATC) tower, and installation of navigation instruments.
Historically, Mamnoor Airport was operational during the Nizam era, serving Vayudoot flights. It also played a crucial role during the India-China war. This approval marks the reactivation of the airport after nearly 32 years of dormancy.
