CDFD and NFSU boost forensic innovation with MoU

As part of a memorandum of understanding signed on Monday, both institutions will jointly work on the development and validation of advanced DNA forensic and databasing technologies

Hyderabad: In a major boost to forensic innovation, Hyderabad’s Centre for DNA Fingerprinting and Diagnostics (CDFD) and Gandhinagar’s National Forensic Sciences University (NFSU) have joined forces to work on DNA-based technologies and their applications in the justice delivery system.

As part of a memorandum of understanding signed on Monday, both institutions will jointly work on the development and validation of advanced DNA forensic and databasing technologies. The partnership also includes collaborative research in forensic genomics, proteomics, toxicology, and diagnostics.

A key highlight of the MoU is the establishment of the International Society of Forensic Biotechnology (ISFB) to promote global collaboration, standardisation, and knowledge exchange in the field. Additionally, both institutions will design and deliver professional development programmes such as certificate courses, workshops, and internships for forensic professionals, law enforcement officers, and members of the judiciary.

The MoU also supports technology incubation and transfer to promote indigenous forensic innovations aligned with the Government of India’s Atmanirbhar Bharat and Make in India initiatives. Furthermore, CDFD and NFSU will engage in joint policy advocacy and publish research findings in reputed peer-reviewed journals.

To facilitate ongoing academic exchange, the institutions will organise biannual international conferences and seminars focusing on emerging trends in forensic biotechnology.
