Contract Teachers, KGBV Staff Told To Apply For Transfers
Hyderabad: Contract teachers and staff working in Telangana’s Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas(KGBVs) can apply for transfers on either spouse or mutual grounds, following orders from the Samagra Shiksha State Project Office.
A memo issued by the state project director asked district education officers to collect data from willing contract staff and send the applications to the SPD office by July 26. Separate formats have been prescribed for spouse-based and mutual transfers, but each individual can apply under only one provision.
Teachers’ unions including the TSUTF that led the fight for the cause welcomed the move but urged the government to go beyond just special cases and also allow general transfers. Federation state president Chava Ravi pointed out that many KGBV posts had fallen vacant due to recent promotions, resignations, or upgradation of schools.
“Several employees continue to work in remote locations on very low wages, despite requesting transfers for years. The last round of transfers left out many deserving staff. The government must also consider general transfers to fill newly sanctioned and vacant posts,” general secretary E Venkat said.
The union also demanded a two-day extension of the application deadline to accommodate more applicants, especially from far-flung districts.
Although KGBVs operate under contract-based employment, unions argue that a consistent transfer policy, similar to that of regular government teachers, is essential to ensure both staff welfare and effective school functioning.
