Hyderabad: The Telangana BJP has alleged that the caste survey conducted by the Congress government was a farcical exercise, excluding 50 lakh families and misleading the Backward Classes (BCs) by including the Muslim population within them. The Muslim BC community had not been included with the BC population in any state, he claimed.
The BJP said that according to the Central Election Commission (CE), the total number of voters in Telangana stands at 3.35 crore, whereas the survey reported the state's population as 3.54 crore. This, the party argued, implies that the non-voter population is only 19 lakh.
Addressing a press conference on Thursday, BJP state general secretary Dr. Kasam Venkateshwarlu demanded that the state government implement 42 per cent reservation for BCs in local body polls if it was truly committed to their welfare.
