Carnival Sunday Brings Jathara to Tank Bund
The stalls, numbering about 100, sold everything from hot snacks to books, saris, dresses, and event jewellery

Hyderabad: After a gap of over two years, Carnival Sunday returned to Tank Bund. Traffic was diverted away from the road, turning the entire stretch into a promenade for families and holiday-makers. The cloudy weather added to the mood. As the evening came to an end, all eyes turned to the sky where a drone show began.
Clowns on cycles and stilt-walkers, were present, as were stalls offering various snacks and fancy goods. The stalls, numbering about 100, sold everything from hot snacks to books, saris, dresses, and event jewellery. Big screens were placed, where cultural performances stage and the Miss World at the Secretariat were telecast live.
“This feels like a small jatara,” said M. Lavanya, a mother of two. “We have jataras every year in our village and today’s event reminded me of them. We need more evenings like this,” she added.
Three stages were set up along the road, where cultural performances kept the crowd entertained. From Kuchipudi dances to various performances and a qawwali session. A flash mob featuring Tollywood, Bollywood and even Hollywood tunes got the crowd cheering and singing along.
The evening came alive after sunset. Children laughed as clowns cycled and stilt walkers waved cheerfully. “The clowns were my favourite,” said Ayaan, an eight year old.
Nushrat S., Ayaan’s mother, said, “We usually see things like this in big carnivals and circuses, I’m happy that we get to see something like this on Tank Bund, the evening really made my kid very happy.”
“I loved the small photo booths, me and my friends took so many pictures, it felt like a mini exhibition for us,” said Anisa Muskhan, a college student who came with her college friends.
“There are so many stalls with yummy food and cute things to buy. I had tasty cheese cakes and even got matching earrings with my mom,” shared Saanvi Rao.
