Car Registration Scrapped Over Minor Driving Vehicle
Joint transport commissioner Chendrasheker Goud said the department had acted promptly and expressed concern over a minor being allowed to drive

Hyderabad: The transport department has cancelled the registration of a car for one year and barred a minor from obtaining a driving licence until the age of 25, after a video showing a six-and-a-half-year-old girl driving went viral.
Joint transport commissioner Chendrasheker Goud said the department had acted promptly and expressed concern over a minor being allowed to drive. “The department expressed serious concern over the incident. In the last financial year, 4,070 vehicle registrations were cancelled across Telangana for permitting minors to drive, highlighting the Transport Department’s strict enforcement of the law.”
He added that the department had instructed its IT team to impose a restriction ensuring that no driving licence is issued to the minor until she attains 25 years. In an official statement, the department said the vehicle’s registration had been cancelled for one year under Section 199A(4) of the Motor Vehicles Act.
The department also issued a public appeal to parents and guardians to not allow anyone below the age of 18 years to drive, warning that violations could invite serious legal consequences.
The incident came to light after residents and road users raised an alarm on seeing the child driving on the Gandhamguda-Bairagiguda road. Her grandfather, a Hyderabad police sub-inspector, had her to drive the car.
