HYDERABAD: A high-end car caught fire near the VIP gate of the LB Stadium at about 2.30 pm, Saifabad police said on Saturday. According to Saifabad station house officer Prasad Rao, there were no casualties. The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained but the cops suspect a short circuit. The fire was reported by the car owner. “The fire department reached the spot immediately to douse the fire. Further investigation in the case is underway.” he said.

Filmnagar police chase down 3 thieves

Sangareddy: The Filmnagar police on Saturday arrested three people for theft at different places in the city and seized stolen gold, silver and US dollars worth Rs 27 lakh from their possession. Two of the three were caught after a chase. The accused were identified as Syed Ali Huzaifa, 20, Mohd Ajmal Sharief, 19 and Mohd Abid Biyabani, 19, Jubilee Hills ACP P. Venkatagiri said that as part of the15-day-old surprise frisking of suspicious individuals, police noticed two persons attempting to flee at Brindavan Colony, Tolichowki. "The police chased and caught the accused and interrogated them. During their fingerprint analysis, it was learnt that they were house burglars and were involved in 10 cases of theft. The duo confessed to the cases and police recovered 30 tolas of gold ornaments from them," the ACP said.

Falaknama Express halted for 2 hrs after glitch

Nalgonda: Train services on Guntur-Secunderabad route were disrupted due to a technical glitch in the Falaknuma Express at the Miryalaguda station on Saturday morning. Problems in the block brake of the train resulted in the incident, which impacted other services on the route. After repairs, the train left for Secunderabad. Passengers of Falaknuma Express faced inconvenience due to the halt of the train for more than two hours. Palnadu Express was delayed by one-and-half-hours.

46-yr-old NIMS doctor dies by suicide

HYDERABAD: A 46-year-old doctor from the Nizam's Institute Of Medical Sciences (Nims) died allegedly by suicide on Friday night at her residence, Begumpet police said on Saturday. Police identified the deceased as Dr Prachi Kar from the anaesthesiology department of Nimz. On Friday night, when Dr Kar did not open the door, her husband broke it open and found her dead. It was suspected that she had administered herself an anaesthesia injection. Her husband rushed her to Nims for treatment where she was declared brought dead, the police said. Asked for the probable reason leading to the suicide, the police suspected domestic disputes to be the cause. Police booked a case under Section 194 of the BNS and started an investigation.

7 kg ganja seized, three persons held

Hyderabad: The southwest task force and Gopalapuram police on Saturday arrested three persons for carrying 7 kg ganja at a restaurant opposite Secunderabad railway station and seized the narcotic worth Rs 80,000. Task force DCP Y.V.S. Sudheendra identified the accused as Elateriya Parichha, 40, Budhadeb Nayak, 44, and Chandan Kumar Swalsingh, 27, natives of Gajapati in Odisha state. Swalsingh had recently shifted to Hyderabad to earn his livelihood and took to ganja peddling to earn money. His associates Parichha and Nayak brought the contraband from Odisha and were handing it over to Swalsingh when the police arrested them.


Film producer ends life

Hyderabad: A 33-year-old film producer died by suicide at her flat in Madhapur, police said on Saturday. According to police, the woman, a native of Rajahmundry, came to Hyderabad three years ago and worked as an assistant director. Later, she lost her job and was facing a financial crisis, stated Madhapur inspector Krishna Mohan. She had been relying on her friends for financial support for many days. The victim was living alone in her flat and had been struggling with depression for the past six months, he said. The neighbours informed police after a foul smell started emanating from the flat. The body, which had decomposed, was shifted to Osmania Hospital mortuary for post mortem. Police have registered a case and are investigating the matter.

Youth from Kodad dies in Singapore

Suryapet: A 26-year-old man from Kodad, Chowdavaparu Praveen, drowned in the sea off Singapore on Friday, according to reports reaching the family here on Saturday. Praveen had gone to Singapore in February 2023 for a software counsultant’s job in a company there. Along with his friends, Praveen had gone to a beach and was swept into the sea while swimming. According to reports reaching here, Singapore police took up search operation and retrieved his body. Praveen had completed his Bachelor of Engineering from Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University (JNTU), Hyderabad. Earlier, he had worked as a senior software engineer for an IT company at Hyderabad.
