Cabinet Approves Eight Railway Projects, Including Malkangiri-Pandurangapuram Line Via Bhadrachalam

Hyderabad: The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday approved eight railway projects across the country costing Rs 24,657 crore. Among them is a 173.61-km railway line between Malkangiri and Pandurangapuram via Bhadrachalam, that will connect East Godavari and Bhadradri Kothagudem.
A press release said the eight projects cover 14 districts in the states such of Odisha, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Jharkhand, Bihar, Telangana and West Bengal will increase the existing network of the Indian Railways by 900 km.
It will involve construction of 64 new stations will be constructed, providing enhanced connectivity to six aspirational districts (East Singhbum, Bhadadri Kothagudem, Malkangiri, Kalahandi, Nabarangpur, Rayagada), covering approximately 510 villages and about 40 lakh population.
Ajanta Caves, a Unesco world heritage site will be connected to the railway network. Four out of the eight new lines are in Odisha: Gunupur-Therubali (new), Junagarh-Nabrangpur, Badampahar Kandujhargarh and Bangriposi; Gorumahisani. The line between Buramara and Chakulia will covers Jharkhand, West Bengal and Odisha. The Jalna-Jalgaon and Bikramshila-Katareah lines are in Maharashtra and Bihar.
