KARIMNAGAR: A 53-year-old businessman was brutally murdered following a violent clash over a pending chit fund payment of ₹12,000 in Metpally town of Jagtial district.
According to police, the victim, Kolagani Anjaiah, succumbed to his injuries at a private hospital after being assaulted by a father and son. The incident triggered tension in the town, with family members and local residents staging protests and blocking roads, demanding the immediate arrest of the accused.
Anjaiah, a resident of Govindapalli village, ran a mess and a private chit fund business. Dasoju Srinivas of Ganesh Nagar had participated in a ₹1 lakh chit organised by Anjaiah and had already received the amount, but allegedly failed to clear the remaining balance. On Wednesday night, Anjaiah reportedly spotted Srinivas at a coffee centre near the Ganesh Nagar gate and asked him to pay the outstanding ₹12,000.
This led to a heated argument, during which Srinivas allegedly called his son Venu to the spot. In a fit of rage, the father-son duo allegedly attacked Anjaiah, beating him severely. Locals rushed the critically injured businessman to a private hospital, where he died while undergoing treatment.
Following the incident, Anjaiah’s family members and local women staged a protest, beginning at the Jagtial government hospital where the body was shifted for post-mortem. The protest later moved to Tehsil Chowrasta, where demonstrators blocked the road, demanding swift action and stringent punishment for the accused. Traffic in the town centre remained disrupted for several hours.
Police have registered a murder case based on a complaint lodged by the victim’s family and launched an investigation. Special teams have been formed to trace the accused, who are currently absconding.
