Build Permanent Infrastructure for Medaram Jatara: Seethakka

The Medaram Maha Jatara, often referred to as the "Kumbh Mela of the South", draws millions of devotees, making meticulous planning crucial

Warangal: All development works for the upcoming Medaram Maha Jatara must be permanent and of high quality, said panchayat raj minister Seethakka while directing the officials here on Tuesday. The minister chaired a review meeting with district collector T.S. Divakar and officials from various departments at the collectorate in Mulugu to assess the preparations for the Jatara, scheduled for February next year.

The Medaram Maha Jatara, often referred to as the "Kumbh Mela of the South", draws millions of devotees, making meticulous planning crucial. Seethakka informed the officials that the state government sanctioned Rs.145 crore for the Jatara arrangements, with an additional Rs.50 crore from the previous Jatara still available for use.

She instructed that work commence at least six months in advance, unlike previous years where efforts were hastily taken up in the final two months. With both the Medaram Maha Jatara and Godavari Pushkaralu set to take place next year, the minister emphasised the need for integrated and detailed planning.

Seethakka called for the beautification of the temple premises and allocated Rs.5 crore for developing resting zones near Jampanna Vagu, especially for children and the elderly. Officials were directed to identify priority works early, prepare cost estimates and ensure sustainable execution.

The minister also underlined the importance of providing clean drinking water and ensuring sanitation and hygiene during the event. She advised using CCTV footage from the previous Jatara to review past challenges and address them effectively. The police department was asked to take preventive measures to maintain law and order. Collector Divakar said several officials who oversaw the last Jatara are still in service, and their experience would be critical to the success of the upcoming festival.
