Jawans acting as a “security shield”: Bandi Sanjay Kumar
HYDERABAD: The Border Security Force (BSF) has been playing a leading role in protecting the country by eliminating Naxalites and anti‑national forces, Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar said on Friday.
Speaking after inaugurating new administrative and residential buildings at the BSF sector headquarters in Keerapakkam near Chennai, Bandi Sanjay praised jawans for acting as a “security shield” that has helped bring peace and development to the Malkangiri region of Odisha. He said the BSF Chennai–Malkangiri sector, formed in 2014 to fight Naxal violence and other internal threats, has worked round the clock to guard borders and maintain internal security. “The courage, alertness and dedication shown by this sector’s staff give true meaning to the BSF motto ‘Life‑long Duty’,” he said.
The new infrastructure, built at a cost of over ₹30 crore, includes an administrative block (₹11.07 crore), gazetted officers’ building (₹4.74 crore), jawans’ barrack (₹9.86 crore) and subordinate officers’ building (₹5.30 crore). Bandi said these modern facilities are not just buildings but a symbol of respect for jawans who serve in extreme weather and difficult conditions. “The Modi government is committed to providing all basic amenities to our security forces so that they can protect the nation while staying safe and secure themselves,” he said.
He added that the new complex will give jawans proper rest, hygiene and daily necessities after duty, helping them return to work with fresh energy and morale. BSF personnel and their families in southern India will also get better welfare support, medical care and educational facilities through the Chennai sector. Senior BSF and CPWD officials, including ADG Sewang Nangyal and special DG (CPWD) Vivek Nand Vivek, were present.
