BRS Won Over 30% Wards, Says KTR; Slams Congress Over Misuse of Power

Claims party secured strong vote share, alleges misuse of power by ruling Congress

Hyderabad: K. T. Rama Rao, working president of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), on Friday said the party would formulate a fresh strategy to achieve better results in the future following the municipal election outcomes in the state.

Speaking to the media, he said the party had expected to win around 700–800 wards. According to him, BRS secured clear victories in 15 municipalities and performed strongly in 37 others, leading to hung councils.
He praised party workers for their efforts and alleged irregularities during counting in some areas. He claimed that in Gadwal, a ward underwent four rounds of recounting, while repeated recounting in Vardhannapet triggered protests by BRS workers.
Rama Rao compared the current results with the 2020 municipal elections, stating that BRS had won 122 municipalities then, while the Indian National Congress won four, the Bharatiya Janata Party secured two, and AIMIM won two. He said BRS has now won over 30 percent of wards and termed the overall performance satisfactory.
He accused the ruling Congress of misusing official machinery and distributing money and liquor to influence voters. He also alleged that Congress had begun attempts to secure chairperson posts in hung municipalities through political bargaining.
Rama Rao further claimed that the Communist Party of India extended support to BRS in Ketanpalli municipality following the exposure of alleged irregularities in the Singareni Collieries Company Limited. He said BRS would, in turn, support CPI in the Kothagudem Corporation.
He added that he had spoken to CPI leader Koonamneni Sambasiva Rao regarding the issue. Rama Rao asserted that only BRS could effectively counter Congress and BJP, and maintained that leadership of K. Chandrashekar Rao remained crucial for the state.
He concluded by saying the party is prepared to work with neutral groups and allies to strengthen its position in the future.
