HYDERABAD: The BRS on Thursday welcomed the Supreme Court’s verdict upholding the Telangana High Court order disqualifying Danam Nagender from continuing as MLA. BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao called it a “supreme slap” to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy.
He said Nagender’s attempt to escape disqualification under the anti-defection law was now fully rejected. Alleging that Rahul Gandhi and Revanth Reddy believed they could “steal a mandate through defections and hide behind the Speaker,” Rama Rao said the verdict also exposed the attempt to protect defections through the office of the Speaker.
“The people of Khairatabad will soon give their verdict on three years of betrayal, broken promises and misrule,” Rama Rao said adding that the Nagender episode could have wider political implications. “One wicket down — more to follow soon. This has proved that Rahul Gandhi is a ‘MLA chor’,” he said.

If those in power believe they can act as they wish simply because they have political power, the courts will not remain silent,” he said.
“After the Supreme Court verdict, the government should ask the remaining defected MLAs to resign as well. Let them go before the people and seek a fresh mandate. The people should have the final say,” Harish Rao said.
