BRS Welcomes SC Orders on Kancha Gachibowli

BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao, thanking everyone, particularly the students and faculty of University of Hyderabad who fought to protect Kancha Gachibowli, urged the Revanth Reddy government to “stop acting recklessly, and start acting responsibly.”

Hyderabad: The BRS on Wednesday welcomed the Supreme Court order to restore Kancha Gachibowli forest, and hailed the court’s directives to the Chief Secretary and Chief Wildlife Warden of Telangana to protect wildlife as a “significant victory.”

BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao, thanking everyone, particularly the students and faculty of University of Hyderabad who fought to protect Kancha Gachibowli, urged the Revanth Reddy government to “stop acting recklessly, and start acting responsibly.”

He said the court’s orders have shown that “the Congress government’s attempts to misuse power to harm the environment and evade accountability will no longer succeed. By indulging in the actions he did, the Chief Minister established himself as a key adversary to Telangana’s people, forests, and wildlife.”

He also said the Supreme Court Central Empowered Committee’s observation that a potential `10,000 crore financial fraud may have occurred in the land mortgage dealings on the land “validated BRS’ allegations that forest land in Kancha Gachibowli was illegally pledged to a private company.”

Senior BRS leader T. Harish Rao also welcomed the Supreme Court orders saying “the court has shown the dangerous ecological destruction indulged by the Congress government. The comments on the use of bulldozers to destroy a forest and doing so during holidays when no one could take the matter to the notice of the judiciary, is a slap in the face of the government.”

“Everyone should welcome the court asking the government on how it plans to restore the destroyed 100 acres. We have faith in the judiciary and as a responsible political party, submitted a detailed report to the CEC with all proofs required to establish environmental destruction,” Harish Rao said.

The CEC report should at least now open the eyes of the Congress government, he added.
