BRS Stages Walkout From Telangana Assembly over Commission's Report On Kaleshwaram Project
BRS working president K T Rama Rao and party leader T Harish Rao alleged that the ruling party had suppressed the Opposition's voice inside the Assembly

Hyderabad: The BRS on Sunday walked out of the Legislative Assembly protesting against “throttling of its voice” during the debate on the report Justice P.C. Ghose commission report, and took its protest to the Gun Park opposite the Assembly where its MLAs threw copies of the report into a trash bin as “the report was nothing more than trash and that is the place where it deserves to be put.”
BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao and former irrigation minister T. Harish Rao slammed the government for not allowing their party to present their side in the debate even as Rama Rao accused the Congress of conspiring with the BJP to permanently close down Telangana’s lifeline project.
Harish Rao, sole speaker for the BRS in the Assembly debate, said he was not allowed to speak with eight ministers interrupting him 33 times. After his microphone was cut, he and other BRS MLAs kept imploring the Speaker to allow him to complete speaking. “This government, in a state of panic, convened a special session even on a Sunday to hurriedly push through this report, fearing it may not withstand scrutiny,” he said.
He said the report was “entirely one-sided and politically motivated,” adding that the BRS placed all facts and evidence before the Assembly to expose the flawed nature of the commission’s findings.
Declaring that the BRS demands immediate repair of the damaged piers of Medigadda and lifting of Godavari waters from there, Harish Rao said “we will keep account of your conspiracies, your illegal cases, your political vendetta—and with interest, we will make you pay. We will not leave you.”
Rama Rao said Kaleshwaram, the world’s largest lift irrigation scheme, is an engineering marvel and a boon to lakhs of farmers. “We will not allow any attempt to sabotage this project. If necessary, we will take the fight to the people through a mass movement,” he warned.
