BRS Protests Demanding Soybean Procurement

Jogu Ramanna alleged that both the state and Central governments had failed to procure rain-affected soybean

ADILABAD: Along with distressed farmers, leaders and cadres of the BRS, led by former minister Jogu Ramanna, staged a rasta roko on Friday on the Bela-Jainad stretch of National Highway 353B, demanding that the state and Central governments procure soybean from farmers.

The protesters demanded that the state government purchase soybean without imposing restrictions. Addressing the gathering, Jogu Ramanna alleged that both the state and Central governments had failed to procure rain-affected soybean. He announced that the agitation would be intensified in a phased manner to mount pressure on the government. He claimed that distressed farmers were being driven to suicides and said farmers were also facing an acute shortage of urea.

Questioning the government’s approach, he asked what purpose an online app for booking urea would serve when fertiliser shops had no stocks.

He further alleged that local MLA Payal Shankar had colluded with the Congress government and failed to support distressed farmers. He also criticised agriculture minister Thummala Nageswara Rao, alleging that merely writing a letter to the Union agriculture minister was inadequate to address farmers’ problems.
