BRS Neglected Housing Due To Lack Of Commissions: Ponguleti

Srinivas Reddy said that after coming to power, the Congress government revised the Indiramma housing scheme and sanctioned 4.5 lakh houses to eligible families in the first phase: Reports

NALGONDA: Revenue minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy on Monday alleged that the previous BRS government failed to focus on housing schemes as they did not generate commissions for those in power, unlike the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme (LIS).

Laying foundation stones for CC drains worth ₹22.6 lakh and CC roads costing ₹72 lakh at Narayanapuram in Edulapuram mandal of Khammam district, he said the earlier government diluted the housing programme in the name of double-bedroom houses, thereby shattering the dream of the poor to own a pucca house. He questioned how many double-bedroom houses were actually sanctioned to the poor during the 10 years of BRS rule, alleging that priority was given to the Kaleshwaram LIS only to earn commissions.

Srinivas Reddy said that after coming to power, the Congress government revised the Indiramma housing scheme and sanctioned 4.5 lakh houses to eligible families in the first phase. He said the state government was committed to providing Indiramma houses to all eligible families over the next three years. In the subsequent phases, house sites and houses would also be sanctioned to families who do not own land for construction, he added.

Stating that the Congress government was committed to the welfare of the poor, he listed initiatives such as free power for domestic connections up to 200 units, supply of fine rice to ration cardholders, enhancement of mess and cosmetic charges for hostel students, interest-free loans to SHG women, and free travel for women in TGSRTC buses. He sought public support for effective implementation of welfare schemes.

The revenue minister assured that he would take responsibility for the development of Edulapuram municipality. Later, he also laid the foundation stone for CC roads worth ₹75.85 lakh in Indiramma Colony at Gudimalla.
