BRS MLAs' attack on Dalit Speaker deplorable: Konda Surekha

Hyderabad: Endowments minister Konda Surekha pointed out the similarity between the alleged attack by BRS MLAs on Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar, who hails from the Dalit community, in the Assembly and the alleged demeaning of Dr B.R. Ambedkar in Parliament.

In a statement issued on Friday, Surekha condemned the BRS legislators rushing towards the Assembly podium and alleged that they intended to attack the Speaker. She charged that the BRS and BJP had anti-Dalit, anti-tribal and anti-bahujan strands in their DNA.
The minister charged that BRS president and former chief minister K. Chandrashekar Rao had ditched Dalit communities by not making a person from the community the Chief Minister despite making tall promises. The Congress had made a Dalit community member the Speaker of the Assembly, and the BRS was unable to digest it, she added.
