BRS Lacks Moral Authority to Address Farmer Suicides: Kodanda Reddy

Hyderabad:Telangana Agriculture Commission chairman M. Kodanda Reddy criticised the statement of the BRS that it would take up the issue of farmer suicides, stating it did not have the moral authority to speak about them. He said that the study committee on the issue formed by the BRS was a farce.
Addressing the media here, Kodanda Reddy asked, “Did Satyawathi Rathod and Jogi Ramanna who are in the committee ever bother about farmers? Do they have any understanding of farmer’s problems?”
“KTR and Harish are shedding crocodile tears on farmer suicides. They never cared about farmers. Around 7,000 farmers ended their lives during the BRS but only 1,220 were recognized,” Kodanda Reddy said.
“Owing to the BRS disdain towards farmers Rahul Gandhi toured Adilabad and Warangal districts and met them. He even gave compensation to them, the Agriculture Commission chairman said.
“One hundred farmers had to approach the courts to seek compensation and the government responded only after that. Do the BRS leaders know that a farmer in Dubbaka died after setting up a funeral pyre for himself in Mallannasagar. Agriculture suffered during the BRS regime.”
State Seeds Corporation chairman S. Anvesh Reddy said that by establishing the Dharani portal, BRS leaders left 23 lakh farmers landless. Bhoodan land, government and assigned land and even privately owned land were transferred in the name of BRS leaders, he said.
“Officials also misused this. BRS leaders don’t have any answers to the corruption charges being leveled against them,” Anvesh Reddy said.
Those who attended also included State Warehousing Corporation chairman Rayala Nageshwara Rao, Agros chairman Kasula Balaraju and agriculture cooperative union chairman Mohan Reddy.
