BRS Demands President's Rule In Telangana, KTR, Harish Flay Govt
BRS leaders K.T. Rama Rao and T. Harish Rao demand President’s Rule in Telangana, alleging law-and-order failures and police excesses against women MLAs.
The BRS on Tuesday demanded imposition of President’s Rule in Telangana declaring “law and order in the state have gone up in flames.” rven as senior leaders K.T. Rama Rao and T. Harish Rao were arrested while on their way to the farmhouse of former chief minister K. Chandrashekar Rao where a protest was on.
Party working president Rama Rao, and Assembly deputy floor leader Harish Rao, in separate press conferences, attacked the Congress government over its reluctance to apologise for the police excesses against the party’s women MLAs, and for encouraging a ‘police supported’ protest at BRS president and former chief minister K. Chandrashekar Rao’s farmhouse residence in Erravalli.
Earlier, Rama Rao, and Harish Rao were arrested while they were on their way to Erravalli, and brought to the Bolaram police station in the city where they were held for a few hours.
There was high drama at the police station as a large group of BRS followers reached the place even as a group of Congress workers arrived. With both sides clashing with each other and using stones to attack each other, the police intervened and dispersed the two clashing groups.
Calling Chief Minister Revanth Reddy “a modern day Dushasana ,” Harish Rao said “law and order in Telangana have gone up in flames. The Centre and the Governor must intervene. We demand that President’s Rule be imposed in Telangana.”
He also said that the Speaker, during an informal chat with reporters said there were no attacks on the women MLAs from BRS. This despite clear evidence that one MLA was choked by a police man while another’s saree was pulled. The police did not file cases despite the MLAs filing complaints, he added.
Rama Rao said “Telangana has a Chief Minister with a criminal mindset. The Congress government used the Speaker as a shield despite the BRS MLC clarifying he made no comments were made him, and withdrew the remarks expressing regret if the Speaker was hurt. Instead of taking action on the manhandling of our women MLAs, the government sent Congress goons to KCR's house under police escort,” he said.
Rama Rao also criticsed Shadnagar MLA Veerlapally Shankar who told reporters that the Congress wanted Chandrashekar Rao’s death. “Why would they wish for this,” Rama Rao asked.
Declaring that the BRS has complete faith in democracy and the judiciary, Rama Rao said though they were in the police station, attempts were made to bring Congress workers there to attack the arrested BRS MLAs at the police station itself.
