BRS Complains to Governor on Govt ‘Atrocities’, Seeks Redressal

Hyderabad: The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) on Wednesday urged Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla to intervene and stop the Congress government’s high-handedness against the party MLAs during the ongoing Assembly session.

A delegation of BRS MLAs led by K.T. Rama Rao called on the Governor at the Lok Bhavan and submitted a memorandum seeking his intervention on the attack on former chief minister K. Chandrashekar Rao’s residence in Erravalli posing a threat to his life, preventing the BRS MLAs from entering the Assembly and an assault on the MLAs, including women MLAs of the party.

Later, Rama Rao told reporters that the Governor responded positively and assured them that he will seek information from the Chief Secretary and the Director General of Police on the issues raised by the BRS MLAs.

The BRS working president said they also submitted photographs and other evidence on how the police treated the BRS MLAs, including how MLA Sunitha Laxma Reddy’s sari was pulled, and how Sabitha Indra Reddy was dragged by her hair. The Governor was also briefed on how our complaints against police personnel involved in these incidents were being ignored by the police.

Rama Rao also attacked the Congress government accusing it of using the “Speaker issue” by alleging that BRS MLCs made comments which they did not. “We have great respect for Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar. It is the Congress that is repeatedly invoking the Speaker’s identity as a Dalit Speaker for political ends,” Rama Rao said.

He said the Governor had assured the delegation that he would look into every issue raised by it, including matters concerning the legislature and incidents outside it.

“We hope the Governor will intervene in the ongoing atrocities and ensure justice. If justice is not ensured in Telangana, then we will take the matter to Delhi, approach the National Commission for Women, National Human Rights Commission and others,” Rama Rao said.
