BRS Boycotts Legislature Training, Accuses Speaker of Bias

HYDERABAD: The BRS on Tuesday declared that it was boycotting the two-day training session for MLAs and MLCs organised by the Legislature secretariat, and alleged that Assembly Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar acted in a manner that resulted in violation of the rights of the BRS MLAs on Monday by not allowing them to enter the Assembly premises.

The training and orientation programme, on Wednesday and Thursday, will be held at the MCR HRD Institute, and will cover subjects including ‘the hallmark of an effective legislator — how to be one’, and ‘effective utilization of question hour, zero hour, resolutions, adjournment motions, special mentions, matters of urgent public importance’.

In a statement, BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao alleged: “The Speaker had us arrested by the police for our protest highlighting public problems. The Speaker is also sitting on the issue of defections of our BRS MLAs.”

He claimed that the Speaker was “acting unilaterally, and throttling the voice of BRS in the House. As a mark of protest, we are boycotting the training programme.” Rama Rao said there were very few first-timer in the party.
