BPharmacy student dies in hit and run accident in Abdullapurmet; Arrested Skoda driver blames Google map
The police caught car driver while conducting checking at Chaitanyapuri

Hyderabad: In a hit and run case, a BPharmacy first-year student died while her friend suffered serious injuries when a speeding Skoda car hit them at Koheda near Outer Ring Road (ORR) in Abdullapurmet on Thursday night.
The student, K Spandana’s friend Sai Kumar picked her up from the college and was going to drop her at the hostel in Ghatkesar on a bike when the car came from the opposite direction and hit them resulting in serious injuries.
Spandana, a resident of Saidababd, was brought dead to a nearby Neeladri hospital in Hayathnagar, while Sai Kumar escaped with injuries. He is presently undergoing treatment in the same private hospital, said Abdullapurmet Inspector B Anji Reddy.
After the incident, the car driven by Pradeep allegedly escaped from the spot but the Chaitanyapuri police spotted the car while checking and detained him. The police grew suspicious as the left side of the windscreen was damaged along with a portion on the bonnet above the left tyre.
The police handed over Pradeep to Abdullapurmet police for further action.
Spandana’s family members came to know about the incident after the ambulance driver, who rushed her to the hospital, called her father K Shankaraiah and informed about the incident. Based on Shankaraiah’s complaint, the police booked a case under Sections 106(1) and 125(a) of BNS and took up investigation.
The police handed over the body to her family members after an autopsy at the Osmania General Hospital (OGH) mortuary.
Meanwhile, Pradeep, a real-estate businessman, informed the police that he entered the Koheda service road instead of travelling on ORR to reach Gachibowli due to instructions on Google map.
The police, quoting Pradeep, said that he was returning to the city from Mangalagiri in Guntur and switched on the Google map to reach Gachibowli. Following instructions on Google map, he took the service road instead of ORR resulting in an accident.
The police said Pradeep was not in a drunken condition while driving his car.
