Boy Reunited with Family within 11 Hours

Khaja and his wife, who were anxious through the night, expressed relief and thanked the police team for acting swiftly.

Hyderabad: Police swiftly swung into action and reunited a four‑year‑old boy with his family within 11 hours.

The child’s father, Mohammed Khaja Qureshi, a trader, lodged a complaint at 7.30 pm on Saturday stating that his son, Mohammed Hamza Qureshi, had gone missing while playing with friends in Natrajnagar. He suspected kidnapping and mentioned a burqa‑clad woman seen near the locality, said K. Balakrishna, SHO, Tappachabutra police station.

A case of kidnap was registered under Crime No. 112 of 2026, Section 137(2) BNS, and entered in the General Diary. Two special teams were formed. Police examined over 70 CCTV footages and inquired with locals. During verification, Hamza was spotted in the company of a burqa‑clad woman.

Tracing her movements through cameras, police identified her as Tasleem Begum, 40, a domestic servant from Gangabowli, Tappachabutra. She was detained by female police personnel. During questioning, she gave conflicting statements, initially claiming Hamza had voluntarily accompanied her. Later she said she intended to keep the boy overnight and announce his presence at the local mosque during Fajar prayers.

Police grew suspicious as she had not reported to the nearby station and instead kept the boy with her. Hamza was rescued and reunited with his parents by 12.30 pm on Sunday.

Investigators said CCTV footage showed Hamza walking towards Tasleem on his own. Her background is being verified and further investigation is underway.

Khaja and his wife, who were anxious through the night, expressed relief and thanked the police team for acting swiftly.
