Bowenpally Rape Case: Police Constable Sentenced to 30 Years Rigorous Imprisonment

A court dealing with Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) cases here sentenced police constable Varadaraj Sudesh to 30 years of rigorous imprisonment after finding him guilty in the case of rape of a minor girl that was registered at the Bowenpally police station. The court also imposed a fine of ₹12,000 on the accused. The court directed authorities to pay ₹1 lakh as compensation to the minor survivor.

Police had said Sudesh had gone the victim’s house on some work, Noticing that she was alone at home, he forced himself on her. When she raised an alarm, he left the place but warned her of dire consequences if she complained of the incident. The victim told her parents who lodged a complaint with the police.
BJP Leader Gajjala Yoganand Booked for Alleged ₹24.53 Cr NRI Fraud
The Cyberabad economic offences wing (EOW) police have registered a case against businessman and Hyderabad-based BJP leader Gajjala Yoganand following allegations of cheating, criminal breach of trust and intimidation involving an alleged investment fraud of ₹24.53 crore. Yoganand had unsuccessfully contested on a BJP ticket from the Serilingampally constituency in the 2023 Assembly elections.
According to the FIR, complainant Pavan Kumar Nallamala, a 54-year-old businessman and NRI residing in the United States, alleged that he was lured to invest huge sums in Yoganand’s business ventures between 2019 and 2024 after being assured of partnership and company shares in Manjeera Hotels & Resorts Pvt Ltd and associated firms.
The complainant knew Yoganand since 2014 through business interactions. During a visit to India in 2019, Yoganand allegedly convinced him to invest in his hospitality businesses, claiming he operated reputed companies and promising profitable returns. Believing the assurances, the complainant reportedly transferred `24.53 crore through RTGS and NEFT to multiple accounts allegedly provided by Yoganand.
The complainant alleged that despite repeated requests, he was neither made a partner nor allotted shares. He later allegedly discovered that the shares were mortgaged and that no transfer process was initiated. Following persistent follow-up, an MoU was reportedly executed in November 2024 acknowledging receipt of the investment amount and promising share allotment and partnership formalities.
However, the complainant alleged that Yoganand continued to delay the process and failed to provide proof of share transfer or filings with the Registrar of Companies. He alleged that in February 2026, Yoganand attempted to coerce him into signing a fresh undated MoU with altered terms and threatened him when he refused. Based on the complaint, EOW Cyberabad police registered a case.
Lift Collapse in Manikonda: 9 BRS Leaders Injured After Elevator Snaps from 5th Floor
Nine BRS leaders suffered injuries after an overcrowded lift reportedly collapsed in Manikonda’s Dollar Hills area while they were descending from the fifth floor of an apartment after a party meeting. Two of the injured were shifted to a hospital after they reportedly sustained fractures to their legs.
People familiar with the incident said the lift suddenly gave way. Initial accounts suggested all nine occupants suffered injuries of varying severity, among them two suffered fractures in the leg and knee cap.
According to police, the BRS leaders had gone to issue invitations with regard to an upcoming party event when the incident took place. Nine people entered the lift that was meant for only six. Police and emergency personnel reached the apartment soon after the accident. Details about the condition of the injured leaders and possible action regarding lift maintenance are still awaited.
Hitech City: Speeding SUV Flips After Driver Reaches for Cellphone
A speeding high-end SUV overturned in Hitec City late on Thursday after the driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle while allegedly attempting to reach for his cellphone, police said. Initial reports and eyewitness accounts had raised suspicions of drunk driving, with locals claiming that the car hit the road divider and overturned.
However, Madhapur police clarified that it was not a case of drunk driving. According to police, the driver, a resident of Tarnaka, visited a relative’s house and was returning home when the accident occurred. After refuelling the vehicle, he was heading towards Tarnaka and attempting to grab his mobile phone while driving. It cause him to lose balance and crash into the divider.
The vehicle overturned during the impact. Police said the driver suffered bruises; however he was take to the hospital. No case was registered. The driver later took possession of the vehicle.
