Boat Rides in Papikondalu Suspended as Godavari Swells
The roads from Bhadrachalam to Venkatapuram were submerged at Thurubaka, Kudunuru, and Alubaka and several stretches were closed at Nellipak in Bhadrachalam and merged Etapaka mandal on the Vijayawada-Jagdalpur highway
Hyderabad: The Godavari River that flowed at a dangerous level at Bhadrachalam gradually receded after reaching a maximum 56.16 feet with the inflows of over 15.96 lakh cusecs of water.
The roads from Bhadrachalam to Venkatapuram were submerged at Thurubaka, Kudunuru, and Alubaka and several stretches were closed at Nellipak in Bhadrachalam and merged Etapaka mandal on the Vijayawada-Jagdalpur highway.
Due to this, traffic to Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Odisha came to a standstill. Boat ride in Papikondala also came to a halt.
The road leading to Parnasala Ramalayam in Dummugudem mandal was also flooded by the backwater of Godavari. Traffic to Sunnambatti village in Dummugudem mandal was stopped. Rehabilitation centers were set up in Burgampadu, Dummugudem and Charla mandals and people from low-lying areas were evacuated. Travel on canoes and fishing were banned.
Burgampahad mandal was caught in a waterlogged situation as the Godavari rose significantly. Traffic between Burgampahad, Kukkunur, Bhadrahalam, Irivendi and Ashwapuram mandals were stopped from Friday night to Saturday after the river flowed violently.
As a precaution, people have been evacuated and shifted to safer areas. Houses in Pata Sarapaka, Irivendi and Mothe villages were submerged. Around 75 families have been shifted to rehabilitation centers.
