BLOs Asked to Strictly Adhere to the Prescribed Rules

Distribution of EFs crosses 53 % across the State

Hyderabad:Following reports that booth level agents (BLAs) belonging to certain political parties were directly distributing enumeration forms for the special intensive revision (SIR) directly to residents, Chief Electoral Officer C. Sudarshan Reddy warned booth-level officers (BLOs) of action if similar complaints were received in future.

The CEO directed officers involved in the SIR to closely monitor the process.

This follows the Congress expressing serious concern over the alleged distribution of enumeration forms by AIMIM workers in a few localities of Hyderabad, not only in parts of the Old City but also in Jubilee Hills constituency, and cited certain alleged instances.

Following a series of complaints, the Congress leaders on Monday came up with a fresh list of alleged violations. Hyderabad DCC president Syed Khalid Saifullah demanded a Hyderabad-wide inquiry be conducted into the matter.

Referring to an alleged incident in the Charminar Assembly constituency, Saifullah said Congress representatives had contacted the BLO concerned regarding enrolment forms at Booth No. 29. However, they were reportedly informed that the forms were with a local MIM leader. He said Congress representatives later went to the residence of the leader concerned to ascertain the facts, but were allegedly subjected to misbehaviour. A police complaint was filed in connection with the incident, he said

Both Congress and BJP leaders accused the AIMIM of controlling the process of distribution of enumeration forms to voters in some localities. On Saturday, Union minister G. Kishan Reddy had alleged that AIMIM leaders in parts of Old City were intimidating BLOs engaged in electoral duties, preventing them from conducting door-to-door surveys and insisting that voter forms be distributed only through MIM channels.
